Vänersborg – Dalbergså, Vänerleden

Reaching Vänersborg by train is convenient, with the guest marina Vänersborgs Gästhamn och Marina close to the station, offering information about Vänern. In the town center, the tourist office, Vänersborgs turistbyrå, provides details on the Vänerleden cycle route.

Known as „Little Paris,“ a name given by Swedish poet Birger Sjöberg, Vänersborg is rich in activities and attractions. Visit the historic Residenset building and Vänersborgs Museum, housing Sweden’s oldest museum environment and a unique collection of African birds. Additional information is available at the tourist information center, Turistbyrån. Vänersborg boasts a range of accommodations, supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, and Sweden’s oldest cheese shop. Enjoy the bustling harbor and marina before cycling on or returning by train.

The Vänerleden route, signposted in both directions, starts westwards from Vänersborg. Cross the scenic Dalbobron Bridge for views of Lake Vänern. After the bridge, continue past a petrol station and through an underpass, following the old Frändeforsvägen Road. About 1 km along, there’s a turn-off to Ursands Resort och Camping, ideal for staying, dining, or swimming, with excellent bathing facilities and a heated pool.

Sikhall, with its guest marina and campsite, is a great spot to enjoy the harbor scene before reaching the nearby Sikhalls camping. The campsite offers a beach and a place to relax with coffee and ice cream.

Further along, the route winds through Dalsland Province. You’ll pass Gestads Kyrka, Grinstad, and Bodane, eventually leading to a turn-off towards Dalbergså. In Dalbergså, discover a village shop, campsite, guest marina, and a walking loop with rock carvings by Lake Vänern. For overnight stays, Dalbergså is an option, or continue to Mellerud for accommodations at Sunnanå Hamn or Vita Sandars Camping, offering cabins and residential caravans alongside traditional camping facilities.
