Departing from Borgvik, your cycling journey proceeds towards Karlstad and Skutberget.
Renowned as one of Värmland’s most well-preserved cultural sites, Borgvik buzzes with life in the summer. The area offers a captivating ride through rich cultural and industrial history. A stop at the foundry ruins provides insight into the site’s past ironworks, with picnic tables and chairs nearby for a relaxing break. For dining options, consider Sliperiet, Hamncaféet, or Kungskvarnen. To delve deeper into Borgvik’s past, visit the Borgviks Museum, open during summer, where public restrooms are also available.
Borgvik is celebrated for its historic industrial heritage. At Oscar Magnusson’s Sliperiet art gallery, you can enjoy art and photo exhibitions set in an old industrial backdrop, or treat yourself to a meal at Sliperiet Gastronomi. Other activities include a visit to graffiti artist Hampus Karlsson, a trip to the guest marina for ice cream from Borgviks Hamncafé, or a ride to the distinguished Kungskvarnen hotel and restaurant for dining or coffee. Antique and retro enthusiasts will appreciate Borgviks Antik och Kuriosa. Lodging options include Klaraborg, Kungskvarnen, or the harbor campsite.
Explore Lake Vänern by renting a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) from Vänerkajak. For those who prefer walking or hiking, the Lövåsslingan and Bokskogsslingan loop trails are great choices.
The route from Borgvik features asphalt country roads and gravel paths. En route, visit Kullens Bigård apiary for honey products. At Hasseldalen, enjoy a swim in Lake Långsjön, complete with a jumping tower, a summer kiosk, and toilets. The path then winds through Skruvstad and Vålberg towards Segerstad.
Segerstad boasts quaint farm shops and a rural charm akin to Astrid Lindgren’s stories. The journey is accompanied by picturesque fields, meadows, and grazing animals. Visit Edsbergs Gård Farm for its farm shop and Liljenäs Gård Farm, ideal for ice cream and coffee, with a playground for children.
A detour to Segerstad’s nature reserve is highly recommended. This beloved recreational and natural area features wheelchair-accessible boardwalks extending over Vänern, along with accessible wind shelters and toilets.
Skutberget and Bomstad are prime camping spots along Vänern’s shore. Skutberget caters to active visitors with its beaches, playgrounds, nature trails, fitness tracks, mountain bike route, and a 4-star disc golf course. Nearby is Högt & Lågt, an adventurous high ropes course suitable for all ages.
For accommodation, First Camp Skutberget offers cabins, kayaks, SUPs, pedal boats, and an 18-hole adventure golf course. Alternatively, Swecamp Bomstadbaden, with its extensive sandy beach on Lake Vänern, provides beach volleyball, adventure golf, kayak and pedal boat rentals, and a wellness area with Jacuzzi and sauna for hire.
