Lidköping
Description

Lidköping boasts impressive sights and attractions. The town center features the old town hall, Gamla Rådhuset, and Limtorget Square with preserved wooden buildings. At Rörstrand Center, visit the porcelain museum and enjoy outlet shopping. The route then follows the Vänern shoreline, leading to Vänermuseet, a museum dedicated to Sweden’s largest lake with exhibits, artworks, and photographs, including an aquarium showcasing the lake’s fish species.

Outside the museum is the Framnäsbadet heated outdoor pool, and nearby Kronocamping offers cabin and tent accommodations by Vänern. The route continues through residential areas, past Läckövägen Road, and into the countryside, featuring a country fashion shop at Apelås Gård.

Not to miss is Hindens Rev, a 5 km terminal moraine extending into Lake Vänern, offering a walk with narrowest points at 25 m and the widest at 100 m. Nearby, the popular Svalnäs bathing spot is perfect for a swim.

In the village of Söne, take a break at Söne Mejeri for coffee or lunch. The route then heads to Örslösa, passing through fertile farmland. In Särestad, visit the old farming museum before continuing to Salstad and Flo.

Hunneberg, a significant table mountain, is accessible after Flo. The climb rewards with stunning views from Flo lookout point. Halfway to Bergagården, visit the picturesque site of Erdalen, where charcoal burners annually construct a charcoal pile. Lake Eldmörjan, near Bergagården, is ideal for canoeing/kayaking and offers a scenic walking trail.

A visit to Kungajaktmuseet Älgens Berg is recommended for lunch, coffee, local trail information, and guided tours, including beaver safaris.

Continuing to Vargön, Ronnums Herrgård offers cozy hotel accommodations. Before reaching Vänersborg, detour to Nordkroken to see the sub-Cambrian peneplain, ancient flat rock surfaces from over half a billion years ago.

Cycling directly to Vänersborg, scenic paths along Vänern lead to Skräckleparken, offering bathing spots, disc golf, and the Skräcklestugan café. The route passes historic Residenset, now regional government offices, to reach Fisktorget Square.

Vänersborg, known as “Little Paris,” provides a rich variety of activities and sights, including the Vänersborgs Museum, tourist information, accommodation, restaurants, cafes, and Sweden’s oldest cheese shop. Enjoy the harbor canal and guest marina before continuing your journey or heading home by train.
